Born on a misty morning on 26th September 1981, Amaki's Golden Imp was named for the "impish" way she was cavorting around her mother, the imported palomino mare Cheswick Golden Mist. Amaki's Golden Imp is truly the backbone of our coloured breeding program, all but one (her sister) carry her blood, and we have been lucky enough to have had three of her foals be part of our stud, Ray of Light, his sire Amaki's Impressionist an the buckskin mare Amaki's Impre'Vu. Before coming to Diamond Road Arabians in early 2003, Amaki’s Golden Imp had more than made a name for herself and had become one of the most famous and successful palomino mares in Australia. Below are some of her major achievements:
1984 National Arabian Champion Partbred Arabian Mare or Filly
1984 Australian Championships Top Ten Part Arabian Filly
1988 Australian Championships Top Five Part Arabian Mare
1990 National Arabian Championships 1st Part Arabian Brood Mare
1990 National Palomino Show Reserve Champion Exhibit
1991 East Coast Reserve Champion Partbred Mare
1991 All Arabian Il Cadore Supreme Champion Partbred Arabian
1991 National Arabian Championships 1st Part Arab Brood Mare
1992 East Coast Top Five Part Arabian Mare
Of course it is as a broodmare that Amaki’s Golden Imp continues to make her mark. She produced six foals for Amaki Arabians, including the magnificent perlino full brother and sister Amaki’s Impeccable (East Coast & Australian National Reserve Champion Filly) and Amaki’s Impressionist (National & East Coast Champion Stallion and Australian National Reserve Champion Stallion). Amaki’s Golden Imp is also the dam of our very successful buckskin mare Amaki’s Impre’Vu, herself an East Coast Reserve Champion Filly and National Capital Supreme Champion Partbred Exhibit.
Amaki’s Golden Imp came to Diamond Road as a paddock mate for her sister, Amaki’s Rabecca, who had been chosen as our foundation mare. On a whim, we bred her back to her son Amaki’s Impressionist for one cycle. The stars must have been aligned just the right way as eleven months later, Amaki’s Golden Imp foaled a stunning cremello colt named Ray Of Light, her first foal in eight years. Ray Of Light has gone on to much success in the show ring, and has been retained by the stud. A very beautiful mare who continues to surprise us by putting on the odd show galloping around the paddocks, or finding a new and inventive way to open a gate, Golden Imp is a mare we treasure, enjoying her company when strolling through the mare paddocks. She is quite rightly the lead mare in the herd, however these days tend to spend most of her time off to one side with her sister Rabecca. She has been known to give pony rides to disabled children…no mean feat considering she has never been broken in.
